Any person deciding to compete in a bodybuilding show, I applaud for wanting to get yourself in the best shape of your life. Because that’s what its going to take!
So You Want to Be a Bodybuilder?
Now that you have chosen to take that leap, there are a few things I would like you to know. Because you really NEED to know these.
- This sh*t ain’t easy!
You WILL be tested in every way possible and in ways you never thought were possible.
- Have something to work with.
(Translation) If you have no muscle, just because you decide to do a show doesn’t automatically mean now you have muscle! STFD and take 6-12 months training to become a bodybuilder with a knowledgeable eye guiding you. Or you can take anywhere from 24-36 months training yourself because you’re going to make many mistakes learning what to do AND what NOT to do.
- Don’t compare yourself to people you see online or in magazines.
Understand! This is going to take years! The sh*t is real, and it is going to take you busting your ass doing food prep, cardio, and training. Period. No exceptions – even with genetics! Your ass better be ready to work because there are plenty of people born with great bodybuilding genetics.
- You also don’t have to work as hard as you can.
Only you will know how hard you REALLY worked. Only you will know how hard you REALLY dieted. So, if you slacked off in either respect, don’t go around asking why you’re in last place, 3rd place, or what can you do to improve. That last one is the ABSOLUTE worst – what can you do to improve?? You can DO the d*mn work! That’s what you can DO to improve. DO the work – BE a Bodybuilder.
Now that I have said all that and you’re still on the #DontEverGiveUp train, doing a show is absolutely 100% one of the most gratifying moments you will ever have in your life. But you just can’t and shouldn’t go into it without understanding the truth of what it takes.
